Plusnet, a telecommunications and infrastructure provider based in Cologne and a subsidiary of EnBW, has signed a wholesale cooperation agreement with e.discom Telekommunikation GmbH. e.discom is a subsidiary of E.DIS AG and a regional fiber optic network operator in Eberswalde. The partnership aims to expand the fiber optic networks in Germany.
Both Plusnet and e.discom follow the open-access approach, allowing other providers access to their networks. This collaboration benefits both companies: Plusnet gains access to approximately 14,000 kilometers of fiber optic network in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern without having to invest in their own infrastructure.
This partnership enables Plusnet to offer an extended fiber optic reach for its customers while expanding its footprint in Eastern Germany through its open-access trading platform Netbridge. It also allows e.discom to increase the utilization of its network by leveraging Plusnet’s marketing capabilities.
„As an open-access player, we have successfully expanded our marketable fiber optic network over the years,“ says Jürgen Rohr, Executive Director Carrier Management at Plusnet. „Through this cooperation with e.discom, we welcome a new member into our open-access family.“
„We fully support the open-access concept and are delighted that our strategic partnership with Plusnet will further enhance the utilization of our fiber optic network,“ adds Detlef Katzschmann, Managing Director of e.discom. „This enables us to provide businesses as well as citizens with an ever-growing selection of providers and products. The continued expansion of digital infrastructure plays a crucial role for us as we strive towards an open-access approach. We are building secure and high-performance telecommunications infrastructure in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern while driving digitalization forward within the region.“
