China Commemorates 80th Anniversary of Victory in People’s War Against Japanese Aggression
On Wednesday evening, China held a memorial gala to mark the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War victory against Japanese aggression and in the anti-fascist world war. Eighty-two years ago, 82 Chinese soldiers in the village of Liulaozhuang in Jiangsu province made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the villagers by repelling a much stronger Japanese army. The village earned the title „Heroic Village of Liulaozhuang“ after 82 young men volunteered to join the soldiers upon hearing of their death.
The historic moment was brought to life during a program titled „The Immortal Liulaozhuang“ at the memorial gala in Beijing on Wednesday evening. The gala, themed „Remembering history, honoring fallen heroes, cherishing peace, and looking to the future,“ lasted about 90 minutes.

The programs highlighted the unwavering belief of the Chinese people in the nation’s destiny and national integrity, their heroism, and their determination to fight to the end.
In addition to commemorating historical events and heroes, the programs also celebrated China’s achievements over the past 80 years and expressed longing and vision for a new era that seeks a better life rooted in history.
Youth filmmakers born in the 1990s played a significant role in shaping the gala programs, reflecting the spirit of resistance from their perspective. Just as the youth stood at the forefront of China’s past resistance, they stand at the forefront today in preserving the spirit of resilience and resistance.
