Phygital Contenders: Abu Dhabi – Football: Mexico Quetzales – Armadillos FC crowned champions
In a thrilling finale, Mexico Quetzales – Armadillos FC emerged victorious at Phygital Contenders: Abu Dhabi – Football tournament, held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The five-day event saw 21 elite clubs from around the world competing both physically and digitally for a spot at the Games of the Future 2025, set to take place in Abu Dhabi this December.
Six elite clubs have officially qualified for the Games of the Future 2025, with Mexico Quetzales – Armadillos FC securing the title after a nail-biting final match. The tournament showcased some of the finest football athletes aged 19 to 40, who will now return to Abu Dhabi in December to participate in the Games of the Future.
The final showdown saw Mexico Quetzales – Armadillos FC defeat CM Jardim in a fiercely contested game that merged rapid digital gameplay with high physical skills, ending with a score of 6-4. The battle for third place was equally intense, with Greni Smith narrowly clinching the victory over Zero Tenacity with a final score of 7-6.
„We have put in a lot of effort and are thrilled to have secured a spot at the Games of the Future. We will return stronger and aim for victory,“ said Nizam Omeragić, player for Greni Smith.
